The craft flew over Laos and North Vietnam before landing near Bangkok where Thai authorities secured details.
Beiruti guerrilla leaders reject Egyptian plan for a 24 hour Jordan cease-fire as fighting rages for a third day. Jordanian military governor Majali warns militants to surrender by 4 pm or face death or arrest. Casualties exceed 5 000 while Nasser and Sadek press for truce through PLO leadership in Beirut and Baghdad denounces the move.
President Nixon told Chicago editors that either the United States or Israel might intervene militarily in Jordan to aid King Hussein's government if Syria or Iraq aid Palestinian guerrillas. He said protecting 390 U S citizens could trigger intervention while Israel would act if Arab rebels threaten Hussein alone. Israel would intervene in other circumstances to keep Hussein's regime.
Washington reports say Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir will not engage in Middle East peace talks with Egypt until missiles along the Suez Canal are removed. She questioned negotiating with a country that violated a cease-fire the same day it agreed to observe it. Nixon and Rogers pressed for UN mediated talks but failed. In Stockholm the national election ends with a tight contest between Olaf Palme's Social Democrats and the non-socialist opposition. Polls suggest the Communists could decide control by crossing four percent and securing 14 seats in Sweden's 350-seat Diet. About 5.6 million of 8 million eligible voters.
