Satellite dish trims postal training costs across offices
Frederick's East Patrick Street post office installed an $8500 satellite dish to broadcast training from Washington and Norman Oklahoma. The system, in use since 1987 for audio and since 1990 for video, now serves 250 post offices with TV training, saving about $700 per worker per week by avoiding travel to Norman. By 1994 a thousand sites are slated for satellite or linked computer training, praised by postal staff and cited by Vice President Gore for savings.
