Harbor of Refuge Vessel Wrecks and Multiple Losses
A schooner driven by storm and anchored vessels drifted ashore in Delaware Bay. The Philadelphia steam pilot boat rescued two crewmen, while Captain Mehaffey and four sailors perished. A separate accident at Pitman Grove killed Principal Stratton and injured Clendenning, both transported to hospital. Stratton died en route.
