Sailing teacher joins Pride of Baltimore on Europe voyage
Brunswick High School teacher Lee Vogtman was chosen as Christa Meuliiffe teacher aboard Pride of Baltimore II for a three month European voyage. He joined in the Netherlands last month and has since visited Germany and the Netherlands, telling students from two Brunswick schools about life aboard the schooner. Capt. Jan Miles and crew share observations from the voyage as Vogtman notes European teaching styles differ and that students are the same worldwide. The ship, a state owned goodwill ambassador, is expected to reach port in Baltimore upon completing the tour.

Cooler temperatures trim Washington air pollution this summer
Cool wet weather and air quality efforts lowered regional ozone levels around Washington. Officials from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments said the 10 county area saw days with ozone above federal limits far fewer than typical, aided by vapor recovery at gas pumps, a fuels reformulation mandate, and reduced open burning. The wet season and cooler temperatures kept the region under the 90 degree threshold, with only eleven days above that mark since May 1 and no code red alerts in 1996.
