Clergymen Sentenced in Jackson Desegregation Bust
In Jackson Mississippi a municipal judge sentenced 15 Episcopal clergymen including Evanston Sr. son-in-law of Gov. Rockefeller and Rev. Robert L Pierson to four months in jail and a 200 dollar fine for breach of peace after their attempt to desegregate a city bus terminal. The defendants, 12 white and three Negro, faced protests and did not post bonds as the court noted violations of Mississippi law and church articles of religion.
