Productivity Of Md. Farms Up 82 Per Cent
An 82 per cent increase in farm products since 1909 is Maryland farmers’ answer to the loss of over a million acres in 40 years. The Committee for Conservation Now reported as a supplement to a westward expansion of state land use, crediting tractors, harvesting gear, electric expansion, and better seed and livestock practices for higher yields per farm and per acre. The group noted land loss due to urbanization, erosion, and other causes, and urged continued conservation to sustain gains.
