A warrant officer reported Col Liord A Corkan acting post commander at Camp Stewart was accidentally killed. The 55 year old chief of staff of the Army post was wounded by nine pellets from a 12 gauge shotgun while hunting on the Camp Stewart reservation. Chief Warrant Officer Charles J. Elder of Melbourne Florida signed a statement admitting the shooting. Lieutenant William Allen Stewart said investigators found evidence supporting Elder's claim that the shooting was accidental. Corkan's home was in Woodstock. Vale served in both world wars.
