Bar owners urge city to revive Alternative Rides program

Local bar managers including Pam Belles of Belles Pit Beef and Ale House advocate a city or county funded Alternative Rides plan after a patron who left a Frederick bar later crashed and was injured. Several managers say designated drivers or free rides reduce drunk driving and call for a coordinated program to keep roads safer.

Myersville Fire Plans Contingent on Tax District

Myersville officials propose a fire tax district to hire paid firefighters by July 1, 2000 if county commissioners approve. Ray Hinkle, president and town clerk, said volunteers are declining and a community meeting will be held. Council okayed 730 for electrical work and 1,900 roof repairs.
