Gemini 11 Makes Perfect Landing

Gemini 11 ended a three day mission with seven space records as Charles Conrad Jr. and Richard F. Gordon Jr. splashed down in the Atlantic near the aircraft carrier Guam. They were airlifted to the carrier where Gordon praised the view from 850 miles up and both astronauts spoke of a good flight before rest and further flights. An automatic electronic chauffeur guided the reentry and a recovery at two miles from Guam, closer than any prior American crewed mission. Gemini 9 had held the previous record at 34½ miles.

Grand Jury Returns 25 Indictments in Frederick County

The Frederick County grand jury, after a three day session, returned 25 criminal indictments and issued a generally favorable report on county facilities. It praised the Montevue Home and jail while urging improvements including segregation for juvenile girls, better cleaning of blankets and mattresses in the maximum security area, and repairs to overhead light fixtures. It commended the Montevue Home fire protection sprinkler system and praised the home’s operation by Mrs.

Car Crashes through meters and bank in Frederick

Frederick area motorist Wallace Staubitz, 29, crashed a 1964 sedan along South Market Street near the Square Corner at 11:50 p.m. He struck five meters and a light pole, then rammed the Western Maryland Trust Company building. Passenger Ernest Turner, 24, suffered minor injuries and Staubitz fled but was arrested shortly after.

Mahoney Leads By Narrow Margin in Maryland Primary

In the Maryland Democratic gubernatorial primary Rep. Carlton Sickles refused to concede as George Mahoney narrowed the margin to 934 votes after unofficial returns from 1,492 polling places show Mahoney 146,147 Sickles 144,693 Finan 133,149 Miles 42,215. Absentee ballots in Montgomery County favored Sickles, while the regular tally favored Mahoney five to one. Haverhill Construction Co of White Marsh led by bidding $2,110,743 to build about 3.2 miles of a four lane relocated US 340 from Mt Zion Road to the Frederick Freeway. Official Canvass Begins In County Primary Turnout 40 Percent

The official canvass of votes from Tuesday's primary started today with absentee ballots counted and is expected to finish by Saturday. Unofficial totals show 40 percent of registered voters cast ballots, with Democrats 42.6 percent, Republicans 38.7 percent, and independents weakest at 2.5 percent. 1,200 More Marines In Viet Nam

Saigon reports 1,200 plus Marines landed by sea and air three miles south of the demilitarized zone to strike a North Vietnamese division in the buffer zone. River Cresting At 20 Feet Amid Severe Flooding
