Newport News Virginia September 15 The armored cruiser Maryland remains stuck at the bottom of the ways since launch last Saturday. Tugs failed to move her as the tide rose and fell leaving about 70 feet of the ship still on the ways with little strain. One plan is to tow her off using the battleship Missouri now nearing completion, hoping heavy tonnage will suffice. Builders misjudged how far Maryland should be advanced before launching. The stern is not touching bottom and there is ample water under the hull. Djeved Abdullah Ber, physician to the Turkish embassy, assaulted Turkish ambassador Nedim Bey in the embassy in Vienna on September 15, accusing him of sending compromising reports. The attack occurred in the presence of officials and a visitor. Ber has been dismissed.
Detroit beat Chicago 5 1 in the first game with Chicago taking a 10 to 8 win in the 24 game. New York defeated Boston 2 to Athletic 15 while Washington lost to St Louis Cleveland. In the National League New York and St Louis split with New York 2 St Louis 9 in five innings due to darkness. Philadelphia toppled Pittsburgh 10 to 4. Cincinnati outscored Boston 11 to 4 and Chicago finished Brooklyn 6 to 2. Say you saw it in The Haws.
