Mathias backs changes to diplomatic immunity law
Senator Charles McC Mathias Jr. argues for reforms to end absolute immunity for diplomats from criminal civil and administrative jurisdiction. The Senate approved a similar House backed measure noting decades of issues in Maryland suburbs where drivers and injuries involve diplomats. Mathias cites lack of adequate compensation mechanisms and risks from exceptions while most diplomats carry liability insurance. The report also mentions energy use figures for lighting and fuel equivalence.
