Rockville reports conferences on the dispute between Col. E. Brooke Lee and Montgomery County Veterans Housing Authority records ended without a solution. County Manager Irving McNayr said no agreement was reached after extensive talks across the day.
County officials say Lee heads the records of the Housing Authority and failed to return them when demanded. The Housing Authority was terminated on July 3 and a Citizen's Advisory Committee on Housing was named. Legal action was warned if the records were not returned by 5 p.m. Tuesday as county attorneys and Lee’s counsel argued over loaned precarae receipts.
Lee testified he offered to return the records under conditions and that McNeyr approved but a later action could hamper the county’s ability to dispose of the records by seeking a writ of replevin. The dispute centers on ownership and proper possession of the documents.
