Missile sighting near Cape Canaveral sparks secrecy talk
An unidentified missile believed to be the Goose, a highly classified Air Force diversionary weapon, was sighted over the Atlantic from the Cape Canaveral test center. It flew for more than a minute toward the southeast, then vanished into clouds. The Air Force confirmed a launch but offered few details. The Goose, developed by Fairchild Aircraft, is claimed to confuse radar and support bomber or missile attacks. It uses a solid booster and turbojet, with a fiberglass airframe, and is slated for deployment by SAC. Two other diversionary missiles, Green Quail and Corvus, are in development.
