Sing America Sing falters amid crowds and politics
A critical review of Sing America Sing, conceived by Julius Rudel and funded by Prudential, tracing Act I’s strong revival of American history through song and narration, while Act II devolves into political sentiment and confusion. John Raitt’s faltering narration and uneven pacing dampen what started as a promising Bicentennial musical. The piece notes risks of corporate sponsorship shaping art and hints at future revisions for preservation of the concept.
