First Frederick County Tree Farm Is Dedicated
The first Frederick County tree farm was dedicated near Jefferson on Maurice Lee Dade property. Dade received the farm certificate from Lawrence H. Crickenberger as about 200 people heard State and federal foresters speak. The 50 acre site, settled since 1764, grows mainly oak and poplar with 161 year old black oak shown as a highlight. Contests included cross cut sawing with first prize $30 and second $20 awarded to Middletown High entrants.
