Term and fine imposed on man
A Clarksburg man James Edward Foreman charged with drunken and reckless driving and operating without a license after an accident on Route 40 near Plane No. 4 was sent to the Maryland House of Correction and fined 225 in Peoples court. Magistrate Wilbur F. Sheffield noted bad driving conditions during holidays and Foreman was involved in a side swipe with Arthur Jackson Howell of Baltimore. Howell reported Foreman crossed the center line and could not avoid the crash. The magistrate suspended a 5 fine for William E. Goss of Iselin Pa who faced a conviction for failure to have a light of center. Goss, a soldier on leave from Ft. Eustis, Va., said he had no money to pay. Sgt. Charles D. Mades of the State Police arrested Goss around 2 am Saturday and detained him until a hearing later that day. Goss said fatigue contributed to the violation. Lawrence Thomas of Lincoln Apartment was ordered to pay his wife Virginia 20 weekly for support of their four minor children. Thomas said he was forced to resign from Camp Detrick job due to family troubles.
