Fiery Pittsburgh crash leaves few clues for investigators
Investigators report almost no explanations for the fiery crash near Pittsburgh airport. The aircraft, on final approach from Chicago with a planned stop in West Palm Beach, plunged after a 23 second warning, ripping into a tree stand and scattering into tiny pieces. A tail section survived. Six trespassers were later charged, and workers wore protective suits due to blood and AIDS concerns. The plane had a routine 35 hour check in Hartford with a heavy maintenance review in February 1993.
