Petty Thieving Wave Strikes Middletown Area
Sheriff James A. Jones reports a surge of robberies in the Middletown area as youths and locals target homes and shops. A 16 and 12 year old stole field glasses from a New York machine on Market Square and sold them for eight dollars, later refunded. Two men, Hetterly and Waggerman, were wounded in a petty break in at Monocacy Valley canning yard. Hetterly released on bond, Waggerman jailed. Burglary waves affect Grayson H. Staley residence and the Cronise home on Rockwell Terrace, with Middletown’s spike marking a valley-wide crime wave.
