Union Influence On U S Economy Outlined By Club Speaker
Edwin R. Price of Pennsylvania, retired from coal mining, spoke at a Rotary luncheon on unions and wage contracts shaping the U S economy. He contrasted CIO industry wide organizing with AFL craft unions, cited miner wages and benefits, and argued coal remains vital amid oil and gas competition. He said coal output growth relies on labor-saving tech and that atomic energy will not threaten coal soon. The gathering included visiting Rotarian William Bizzell Cleveland and several local guests.
