Zoning Law Opposed by Upper Montgomery Landowners

A new group, the Upper Montgomery County Landowners Association, formed to oppose the temporary zoning ordinance submitted to the Montgomery County Council. C. W. Anderson was elected temporary chairman at a Friday meeting at All-States Inn near Gaithersburg. A second meeting is set for September 10 at the Gaithersburg Agricultural Center auditorium. Members plan a drive open to all upper county landowners. The group says it favors zoning but objects to the two year freeze the ordinance would impose. They claim the current council is ineffective and may have contributed to election losses. The association intends to meet before a September 23 public hearing and hopes to present its views to the council. Also elected were J. Forest Walker as temporary secretary and directors Marvin Simmons, Lawson King, Harry Burdette, Gernard Gladhill, Henry Becraft, LE. Brashear, Roger Poole, Charles Jamison, Wilfred Watkins, and Dyke Cullum.
