The Illamsville tournament drew large crowds from Balton Toward Montgomery Carroll and Frederick counties. Knights competed for four prizes while music by The Big Four Orchestra accompanied festivities. Winners included Harry C Burdette and J Harry Steele Jr with maid honors to En sor Minnie Mantz and others. An closing revelry ran through much of the evening. A Shaker sister named Morrow at the Centre family workshop in Lebanon Shakers, Columbia County, dropped a light onto floor paper while melting wax. Her clothing caught fire and she was fatally burned, with the billing consumed.
In Cincinnati Colonel Charles Parrott’s residence an enraged suitor James Greiner shot fatal blows at Gretchen Zeling a 20 year old German girl after a night of harassment. Greiner returned firing at Parrott and fled, later captured by neighbors and turned over to authorities as an inquest opens amid excitement.
Corone, Kay, September 6. A tight rope walker named John Lee fell thirty five feet from a rope across Main street after attempting a sack trick. He lost balance at the rope’s center and died a few minutes later on the stony street, striking his head and shoulders.

Special to the News reports Clifford Stibbs of Patapsco Carroll Co. was found dead atop a freight car at Washington Junction on Sept. 5. He likely was struck while passing under the Tuscarora bridge. The body was taken to Baltimore. His mother and sisters reside in Patapsco.
