County libraries pursue federal grant for expanded access
The Frederick County library system plans a Local Access Network with about 38,000 from the C Burr Artz Trust and a potential 34,600 federal grant to improve access to information. An expanded network could reach all branches and add databases on social issues, a general encyclopedia and a business directory. The plan includes a 15 cent per page copy charge to cover materials for computer printouts, a pilot for one year. Sandra Doggett opposed the 15 cent fee citing cost to low income patrons. The library also expands services for the deaf, adding captioned videos and Deaf Life magazine and training two staff in sign language.
