First Labor Day Fatality Recored
The first Maryland traffic fatality for the Labor Day weekend was a 45 year old Waynesboro man killed when his car ran off U S 40 near New Market at 6 45 p m Friday. Robert Russell Brandes of Oller Avenue Frederick identified by state police. The vehicle slid 137 feet down an embankment into a creek. He may have died of a heart attack prior to the crash. Bomb Hits Tate Trial Courtroom in Los Angeles
A bomb exploded on the sixth floor of the Los Angeles County Hall of Justice near the Sharon Tate murder trial rest room. No injuries occurred, but a six inch water main burst caused ankle deep flooding on floors one through six. Record rooms were undamaged and the blast was felt mainly on lower floors while the upper jail complex was unaffected. The blast followed a warning call claiming another explosion within three minutes.
