C O canal cleanup finishes ahead of schedule
The 184 mile C O Canal restoration project reopened for careful walking after a large volunteer sweep by about 7 000 volunteers mainly Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Officials say the effort, with two thousand more planned, could be the park service’s largest single volunteer operation.
