The George S. Rodock company promotes a Saturday sale with numerous items offered at heavily reduced prices. Items include petroleum jelly, boy shirts, kitchenware, gloves, towels, handkerchiefs, shawls, laundry goods, and soaps, all marked down for the event.
In Hazleton Pennsylvania on September 4 a dynamite blast damaged the home of John Stock and family. The attack aimed at the Stock residence with the intent to kill Stock his wife and ten children. Minnie Stock and son John were injured fatally p. the blast wrecked the stove and room. The boy and the mother were treated at the State hospital while the Stock family and others escaped the worst. An adjacent dwelling was partly wrecked.
The body of Glora Strickland from Sub Atlantic City and Charton Bateman of Philadelphia remains missing after a launch trip last Friday. A gun found fifteen miles offshore suggests the boat overturned in a storm and the couple did not return. Fishermen recovered the launch Monday night as the search continued.
The Spanish War Veterans voted to hold their next encampment at Tr coma Wash. The First National bank of Niles Ohio closed by order of directors on grounds of insolvency. Brigadier General Calvin deWitt, retired, died of heart disease at Fort Yellowstone Wyoming aged sixty eight.
Frederick Cooper Hewitt of Owego New York dies leaving estate valued between 5 and 8 million dollars. Bequests include 2 million to the New York-Possible Graduate Medical School and Hospital and 500 thousand to Yale University. Other institutions receive sums from 10 thousand to 200 thousand. no relative or friend receives more than 100 thousand. In separate item, church dancing ban upheld in Pittsburgh.
Chicago dispatch reports Senator Foraker will campaign for Taft starting October 1 with talks across states and Ohio. Key national figures and many congress members will join in late campaign speaking, paid or voluntary, while Foraker denies Toledo rumors of indifference and asserts support for Taft.
In Kokomo Indiana Mrs Mabel Zust fifty four weighed over 300 pounds and swallowed poison claiming she was too fat and a burden to herself and relatives She was found on the lawn west of the city after walking from Benton county and cared for by Sheriff Lindley In York Pennsylvania Mrs Small twenty six wife of a bank clerk killed herself by gas and shot her fifteen month old baby before dying The infant survived and will recover A false report claimed Charles B Roberts of Baltimore was shot on the Atlantic City boardwalk last week and later recovered
