Philadelphia September 3 The Pennsylvania Railroad telegraphers and General Manager Atterbury reached a compromise on their wage and leave demands. Operators east of Pittsburgh and Erie will receive one paid day off per month, while current two day monthly relief remains for some, with no change for managers. The agreement starts October 1 and leaves room for further talks on increased relief and a possible week of vacation later.

Constantinople Sept 3 three explosions occurred on the Austrian steamer Vaskapu soon after leaving Burgas en route to Constantinople. Twenty nine persons perished including the captain and officers. Yacht race postponed after waiting for breeze in fog
New York on September 3 marked the fourth postponement to sail what would be the concluding race between Reli ance and Shamrock III. The pair were towed to Sandy Hook lightship in dense fog and flat calm, then waited two hours for a wind from any direction to cover 30 miles within the time limit. Only 23 craft remained as tugboats, revenue cutters, the newspaper fleet, one excursion steamer, and a handful of yachts participated. The wind finally shifted from east to south, suggesting the easterly seal may end and a possible third race could occur today.
