Maryland Moves To Permit Oyster Tonging In Bay

Maryland officials move to allow watermen to tong oysters in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries with a state wide regulation plan. The director would set varying catch limits and cut buying stations to police the catch, aiming for strict limits early in the season and expansion as demand grows. Some counties oppose, favoring county by county zones instead.

Maryland Inn Declared Off Limits To Military Patrons

The Maryland Inn in Annapolis has been ruled off limits to all military personnel including those from the Naval Academy due to recurring unsanitary conditions in the dining and kitchen areas. The disciplinary board cited repeated warnings with no corrective action and noted issues such as missing soap and towels, lack of handwashing facilities, dirty utensils, trash piles, and dirty storage areas. Investigations by city and Naval Academy sanitarians supported the action, which ends the inn’s appeal as a lodging for lawmakers and military staff.
