A Frederick man is being held without bond in connection with charges leading to September grand jury action. He remains in custody as authorities prepare for the upcoming session.
Vernon Hagan, 38, a farm hand near Jefferson, is jailed without bond in a rape case against Mrs. Marjorie H. Buster, 39, of Charles Town. The August 21 assault occurred on a dirt road near St. Mark's, after the pair met in a tavern and she sought help from passing motorists. Police say two Black men refused aid. Hagan led her to a lane and assaulted her. He was captured after the Maryland State Police picked him up on a tip.
The Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad’s 77 mile route from Baltimore to York ends after 86 years of service. Nearly 140 passengers rode “Old No. 2” on its final trip with a diesel switch engine and three cars. The line’s passenger service declined after government mail contracts were canceled, ending a historic chapter in regional rail travel.
