Prince of Darkness horror rejects dull formula says critics
Critics find Prince of Darkness standard issue horror with a basic plot of entrapment and a group battling a devil. Victor Wong leads a nuclear physicist and Donald Pleasance fights evil in a ruined church where Satan’s essence rests in a glowing container. The film relies on gore over wit and features a murky setup with students, beggars outside, and a night inside the church.
