A damaged notice reports workers at a Maryland plant will be recalled after layoffs. The textile division plans to rehire staff for a danger period, with a timetable not fully clear.
Miss Kate Thoring aged twenty, burned to death at Watchung Crest when denatured alcohol ignited from a can during a tire forcing incident. The bottle exploded scattering fuel on her. a passerby John Burnet tried to smother the flames with his coat but failed. Principal Arowmann and a nurse treated her with bicarbonate of soda before transport to a hospital, where doctors predicted she would live only an hour.
Theodore Whitmore was acquitted after a two hour jury verdict of not guilty for murdering his wife whose battered body was found December 26 last year in a camp near Harrigan New Jersey. His alibi was supported by witnesses who testified to seeing him in New York at the time of the crime. The foreman embraced his attorney upon announcing the verdict.
Mrs Thomas Rock of Connerton near Mahanoy City was found by boys at the bottom of a mine breach while out hunting. Foul play was suspected but the accepted view is she wandered into the breach on her way home from Girardville. A bruise on her forehead is noted as a possible injury from the fall.
In New York on October 21 Charles W. Morse testified for hours in the U S circuit court defending his finances tied to the National Bank of North America case. Prosecutor Stimson pressed Morse on the Wilson loan and bank reports showing excessive lending and Morse signing reports without reading them.
