Defense plans issue smart ID cards to soldiers to access secure sites and digital services. The cards carry a barcode and digital signatures, allowing access to weapons, computers, email, and food purchases. Issuance runs at 900 sites. cards are issued in 10 to 15 minutes with a stored photo and ID number.
