The Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron company raised wages for about 400 workers at Pottsville repair shops and East Mines storage yards. Laborers move from 1.20 to 1.35 dollars daily, shifting crews from 1.30 to 1.80, boiler makers from 2.20 to 2.50, and molders to 2.80 after their third recent raise.

He killed two Filipino women, and President McKinley approved the sentence. his escape ends the only death-penalty case McKinley approved for an American soldier in the Philippines.
Rear Admiral Schley continued testimony in Washington as the inquiry resumed. He described handling confidential orders from Admiral Sampson and said he did not pass them to captains, and he reviewed signals and logs regarding Cienfuegos and the Iowa’s arrival. The cross examination touched on the timing of communications and the interpretation of orders.
