The Frederick County Beekeepers Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Oct 29 in room 235 of Frederick Community College. After the business session Ernie Miner will lead a comb clinic. Ron Bell and Ernie Miner can provide more details.

The Montgomery County Agricultural Center Inc hosts its annual membership meeting on Wednesday November 4 at the center. Six new directors will be elected for three-year terms and the 1993 officers named later. Retiring directors include Malcolm Allison Karen Garner Wayne Burdette Evelyn Hilton Helen Hubbard and Merle Mills. Five $2000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors pursuing agriculture and the 1993 fair runs August 20 to 28.
The 34th Washington International Horse Show runs through Sunday November 1 at Capital Centre Landover with over 270000 in prizes across eight days. Nations Cup Thursday features teams from the US Canada Mexico and Germany in jumper events while Friday offers 10000 Crown Royal Gambler's Choice. The world high jumping record may be challenged Saturday with a 25000 bonus for a break. the Presidents Cup 50000 finale crowns the best in world obstacle courses. Kim Young representing Earl W H Mercer and Son bought four prize winning cakes at the Frances Crum Memorial Cake Auction during the Frederick County Farm Museum Association Fall Festival. The sale totaled 1107 dollars, per farm museum president Joe Free.
Adult champion Georgia Barnes baked the winning German chocolate cake in the adult division at the Singapore-New Market Community Show. Her husband Wayne bought the champion for $100.
Washington AP The Agriculture Department scientist Charley E Townsend of USDA ARS is developing a drought resistant yellow flowered alfalfa to help ranchers in semi arid Western states. The new strain shows vigorous seedling growth and higher seed weight than purple flowered varieties, enabling better establishment without irrigation. If seed is harvested this fall breeders will receive samples for commercialization.
