Less Meat For Next Year Seen
Washington reports the Agriculture Department predicts meat supplies in 1949 will be about seven percent below 1948, with per capita availability dropping from 156 to about 146 pounds. Beef and other meats will be cheaper as producers limit output due to smaller feed crops and faster consumption. The American Meat Institute notes a broad wholesale price drop since last summer, signaling relief for careful shoppers.
