Rickey Says Unity Key to Baseball Strength
Branch Rickey argues the American League is strong and unified, with the Yankees as the top team, but he says the leagues are nearly equal in overall quality. He opposes breaking up the Yankees and suggests the NL could improve by matching the AL on all fronts while focusing on better players and strategic moves.

Hard Jobs Ahead of New Managers in Major League Baseball
New York October 26 Three managers shift major league pennant hopes with bold plans. Oscar Vitt, Wily McKechnie, and Casey Stengel take over in Cleveland Cincinnati and Boston seeking pep power and fresh pitching staffs to lift lagging teams. Vitt faces a daunting wigwam task while McKechnie inherits a Reds lineup in need of punching power and consistent outfield production. Cleveland seeks zing and reliable lefty pitching and catching to revive a once hopeful pennant push with a veteran pitching staff including Feller and Harder still anchoring the mound.
