Four new men reach local CCC camp near Fishing Creek
Fourty five men arrived at the Civilian Conservation Corps camp near Fishing Creek on Tuesday as replacements for recently expired enrollments. Most are 18 to 28, unmarried and from Baltimore. Construction on winter barracks advances with roofs on three buildings and floors laid in two. The hospital building plan includes hospital, office, sick call, pharmacy, store, and officers’ room with two large stoves. Seventy six carpenters are at work. buildings about 20 percent complete. Visitors included Captain Muncie and Lt Thatcher. Also noted is a minor auto accident near Harmony Grove involving Thatcher, who joined camp for dinner. Blue and Grey fall tea held at Hood College with Miss Esther E. Shaw as guest of honor and BG pins awarded to six student reporters. Checks for wheat growers under Federal acreage reduction contracts will be mailed within ten days to Maryland counties and others in the coming weeks.
