Frederick County Commissioners approved a $50,000 temporary bridge over Little Hunting Creek to handle about 400 daily vehicles after an August Hessons Bridge Road accident. Three U S senators James Sasser John Danforth and Max Baucus flew to Phnom Penh to push approval of a plan to send 1000 tons daily of food by truck convoys from Thailand to Cambodia for six months to feed about 2 million Cambodians threatened with starvation. The visit marked the first by American officials since 1975. The effort remains theoretical with no Cambodian assurances of talks.
The Carter administration cites third quarter gains to press a windfall profits tax though analysts say the move would barely affect earnings.
