May Survey Water Lines For Leaks In Frederick
Mayor John A. Derr authorized by the Board of Aldermen to secure prices on a survey of city water mains from Fishing Creek and Linganore to detect leaks and assess cleaning costs as part of a plan to conserve dwindling supply. Engineers estimate up to 20 percent of water is lost before delivery, while a house to house canvass may reveal unreported fixtures and revenue losses. The board weighs long term metering and repairs like an old stone dam on Linganore Creek, and will pursue delinquent rent collection with service termination for nonpayment.

Only County Vote Would Elect Judge
Frederick county circuit court judge would be elected by Frederick county voters alone if an amendment on the November ballot passes. The proposal sets one judge per county with exceptions for the First and Second Circuits and adds judgeships in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Montgomery, and Prince Georges counties. The rule would require third through seventh circuits to elect judges by the county voters where they reside. The item notes that Montgomery could gain a third judge if the other amendment also increasing Montgomery judges is adopted.
