NAACP, Chavis settle suit before reinstatement ruling
The NAACP and fired executive director Benjamin Chavis reach a settlement before a judge decides whether to reinstate him. Mediator Robert Barnett said the terms are undisclosed as the case closes in Superior Court. Chavis had alleged procedural violations in his Aug. 20 firing over an out of court settlement with former assistant Mary Stansel.

Playground makeover at Kemptown Elementary opens after PTA drive
Principal Eileen Tipperman says the 1981 built Kemptown Elementary playground was weak and needed replacement. Volunteers designed and built it over eight months, contributing 1,200 hours. The project cost 4000 dollars but is valued at 20,000 dollars with 19 volunteers on opening day.
