Questions On Polio Answered
Dr Forbes H Burgess county health officer answers polio questions amid public concern. Polio once termed infantile paralysis is a communicable disease from a virus occurring mainly June to November. Early signs resemble a summer cold. most cases do not worsen to paralysis. The Sabin polio vaccine prevents paralysis by keeping the virus from the nervous system with 60 to 90 percent effectiveness across three types, requiring three shots for full protection. The first shot needs at least four weeks before the second. a third shot follows months later to boost immunity. People previously infected may not be immune to all three types and should receive all doses.
