Local stores report improving meat supplies with gains from county sources and limited outside packers. Beef dominates shelves, pork and veal scarce, frankfurters returning but costly. Prices still exceed pre war ceilings by up to 20 to 30 cents per pound, with expectations of relief as external shipments resume.
Pilots strike for higher wages kept all TWA jets grounded for a second day. A special plane ferried United Nations delegates from Paris to New York for the U.N. assembly, while most TWA Constellations and Skymasters remained parked. About 100 New York bound passengers were stranded in Paris, Rome, and Shannon.

Grayson R Cline and wife welcomed a ten pound daughter Raetta Mildred. visitors included Jacob E Cline Lester E Naille and Wilbur J Cline and their spouses.

Daniel Upthegrove, 75, former chief executive and president of the St. Louis Southwestern Railway Line known as the Cotton Belt, died at St. Luke's Hospital after a stroke last Friday. He retired Sept. 15 after 30 years with the railroad.
