Remarkable death by own action of a New Yorker
Henry W. Gwinner, president of the Toole Manufacturing Company at 46 Bedstreet, shot himself yesterday afternoon. E. B. Wishaar, his clerk, witnessed the event and turned when he heard the shot. Gwinner died instantly. A veteran Philadelphia native over sixty, Gwinner had led a railroad copies firm after roles at the Charleston Courier and Pennsylvania Railroad. His finances and motives remain unclear as investigators examine papers and personal effects.

An Eningiishman named Clayton Wille vom was killed during a failed arrest of three drunken cowboys in Glendive. The city marshal attempted to detain the trio when shots were fired, killing Wille vom. Reportedly, the assailants were later captured and jailed.

False Alarm Fire Alarm Leads to Fine and Imprisonment

The Hagerstown Daily Evening Globe reports last Fridays fair receipts at the gates between 5000 and 6000, with this morning’s total above 9000 and expected to exceed 10000. Frederick Fair receipts were 6600, showing the local association will lead Frederick County by about 3500 and may clear its debt for next year’s improvements. A large number of exhibitor and stockholder tickets were issued at the gate, preventing an exact headcount inside the enclosure.
