A midnight explosion at Wirp Cliffe Carlton colliery near Barnsley Yorkshire trapped twenty three miners. Three bodies recovered. officials believe all others perished as rescue efforts continued amid conflicting reports.

The funeral of Lawrence Aubel who died from paralysis on Thursday last was held yesterday evening at 2 o'clock from his residence on East Fourth Street. Burial was at Olive Cemetery with pallbearers L Notnagel J Notnagel H Burger W Baer J Bush and W Noelke. Rev Ti Bielfeld officiated.
