School calendar to include Jewish holidays for 1999 2000

Frederick County Board of Education moves to add Yom Kippur off for students in the 1999 2000 and 2000 2001 calendars. Yom Kippur 1999 would be an optional staff day for development, with winter and spring breaks adjusted to encompass Passover Good Friday Easter and Easter Monday. The board also advances plans to redraw boundaries for seven of ten middle schools due to three in progress projects.

Next attorney general to oversee state tobacco suit

Man Told to Clean Up Property on Simmons Road

Frederick County judge orders Robert Glass to remove visible trash and debris from 11615 Simmons Road within 90 days or the county may enter, remove, and dispose of items at Glass's expense. Glass previously fined 2000 dollars for zoning code violations and is barred from using the property as a storage or junkyard with more than two unlicensed vehicles. Neighbors petitioned over deteriorating conditions and clutter.

Educator Returns from Retirement to Teach Shop at Jefferson

Jefferson School welcomes 73 year old Kenyon Parker back to teaching industrial arts after 32 years in Frederick County Schools. Parker works with severely emotionally disturbed youth and recalls his time at Lincoln School and West Frederick Middle School. Scott Alexander, a former seventh grader, now coordinates activities at Jefferson and notes Parker remains strict but has a softer side.
