Rain of 3.04 inches in 24 hours drenched Frederick and suburbs as the Monocacy rose to 10 feet above normal near Frederick Junction. Cellars flooded after a morning cloudburst. The Potomac crest stayed around four feet at Point of Rocks while creeks broke banks in Lewistown and near Buckeystown. Weather cooled rapidly with a 47 degree wind shift from south to west. Frederick youth recalls world tour from China to Italy
Sixteen year old Allen G Quynn Jr returned to Frederick after a world voyage begun in 1936 when his family joined Commander Quynn in Hongkong. He traveled aboard the USS Asheville and SS President Pierce visiting Shanghai Bombay Naples Genoa and Cairo. He witnessed war scenes in Shanghai and Italy and saw naval maneuvers off Italy. Two Badly Burned In Elkton Fireworks Blast
An explosion at a small fireworks factory in Elkton early today injured two men. Harry Wands, 21, suffered burns over his body and was not expected to live, while William Baker, 47, father of eleven, was seriously burned but expected to survive. The cause of the blast was not determined. In a separate matter, two visitors were fined $100 each for speeding on the Liberty Pike. John A Seiler of Martinsburg, W V, was cited for 75 mph and Donald B. McDowell of Fleetwood Avenue was cited for 70 mph.
