Asks for Home Rule at Once Urged in Commons
In London on Oct 18 John Redmond introduced a motion criticizing Ireland’s system of government. He argued the present setup fostered unrest despite Allied aims, noting Ulster leader Sir Edward Carson’s coalition role as a betrayal to Irish voters. Redmond urged Asquith to exclude Ireland from the coalition, warning of danger and contrasting with wartime unity. He spoke to a crowded house.
