Five Months for Making Liquor Conviction
Leslie Perkins of Gapland was sentenced to five months in the House of Correction after a jury verdict finding him guilty of manufacturing intoxicating beverages for sale. The trial began Monday morning with the jury deliberating briefly, and sentencing occurred in the afternoon. Perkins had testified against Harold Jacobs and John West, accused of holding him up for $96 the night before. Jacobs and West claimed they bought 25 gallons of alcohol for auto use and later paid part of the agreed sum. Jacobs faced federal charges for selling liquor, and Pete Stevens of Brunswick was released on his own recognizance after challenging that his home brew was not intoxicating.
