Order Restricts Sale of New Farm Machinery
A temporary order restricting the sale of new farm machinery and equipment has been issued by Secretary of Agriculture Claude R Wickard. Effective Sept 17, the order follows a rationing system to be finalized in 1943 and delegates authority to the Department of Agriculture under OPA oversight. The plan aims to conserve steel and materials for war needs while supporting the Food-for-Free dom program. The ruling excludes repair parts and items ordered by governmental agencies as well as certain vehicle equipment.

Flood survey notes greater flood crest in parts of town
Officials survey flood damage noting waters nearly matched the 1936 peak in parts of town while elsewhere receded. Red Cross aids evacuees as residents shelter in schools, transport limps through flooded routes, and several bridges remain closed. Losses include livestock unknown, with families displaced and relief efforts continuing.
Flood Rescue Details Across Brunswick Area Update
The report details rescues during the flood near Point of Rocks with the Smallwood family aided by Trooper Holsinger and Kline. Fairfax Miskell and his family were rescued earlier, while six Baltimore & Ohio freight crewmen were marooned on two locomotives and an oil car, later reaching safety after a timber wedged against a tree. Red Cross and city relief provided food and clothing as water rose over the canal towpath and railroad rights of way from Sandy Hook to Point of Rocks. The article notes 1939 Rhodesland had the lowest accidental death rate at 51.3 per 100000.
