Sly the Park Cat Becomes Mascot Of Local Business Lot
In Hyatt Park off Urbana Pike a tabby named Sly earned a home built by Advanced Caseworks and Integra Bi sciences staff. The three by three foot cat house features a widow's walk, skylight, glass windows, cedar shingles, insulated walls, a roof attic, and a plastic flap door. Sly sleeps inside at night and roams the workshop by day, with local workers funding the roughly $1500 shelter. The cat is beloved by regulars and considered the park mascot, while one neighbor briefly took him home after a rainy Saturday but he returned to his park home.

Study examines black students in Maryland special education
The U S Office for Civil Rights asks Frederick County Public Schools and other Maryland districts to examine why black students are overrepresented in special education. Statewide data show 39 percent of special ed students are black though 3 percent of all students are black. The effort, a Maryland State Department of Education partnership, aims to identify policy or practice factors and reduce minority placement in special ed.

Grimes to review $20,000 city overrun in meeting
Frederick Mayor Jim Grimes said he learned Friday of an alderman’s concern that $20,000 may have been paid to a consultant without proper approval. Alderman Donna Kuzemchak suspects two checks totaling $20,000 were issued. City rules require mayor and aldermen approval for checks over $5,000.
