United Airlines orders record $22 billion Boeing fleet

United Airlines announced a record 128 Boeing aircraft order valued at $22 billion including 34 777s and 30 747-400s with options for 34 more 777s and 30 more 747-400s. The deal follows years of near misses amid labor union financing struggles and a prior 370 jetliner order in 1989. Stephen Wolf said the purchase will modernize the fleet and expand domestic and international services. Noland Co reported September sales of $31.8 million, a 13.6 percent drop from September 1989, with $330 million for the first nine months of 1990.
